Be Encouraged – May 15th, 2017

Last night I got to watch a great movie, War Room.  I highly recommend it.  It was a great reminder of a prevailing power tool we have in Christ to combat the struggles, pain, and confusion this world and Satan throws at us.  What is that mighty tool?  It’s prayer.  Now, I know that can sound cliché and useless.  Like something well-meaning naive people do.  Or something people who are too lazy, selfish to take real action on behalf of another individual.  But prayer is the caring and/or action oriented person’s greatest asset.   Think about it.  Ephesians 6:12 says, “For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.”  Spiritual reality runs physical reality.  So, if we want victory in the physical we need to address the spiritual.  What better way to address spiritual that control the physical then by going to the ultimate spiritual force, God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.  God has given us this opportunity and He wants us to use it!

Now to all this I can think of two excuses.  One, God hasn’t answered my prayers.  I usually use this one when I haven’t been praying in the first place.  But sometimes I have come to God with a request and I haven’t got exactly what I wanted.  To that I say, “Praise God!”  I once asked God to keep me in a relationship with a girl and it didn’t happen.  Why, because God knew better.  He had Kimberly, the best woman in the world, waiting for me.  God is not a vending machine, He’s our mighty God that knows best so we go to Him in prayer not only to bring request but for our heart/faith to grow, our request sharpened and our priorities re-aligned.

The second excuse is time.  I use this all the time and it’s a lie.  Life without prayer is a waste of time.   Just like a relationship isn’t a relationship without communication.  Life without prayer isn’t life.  It’s just grasping at the wind and Satan loves it.

Today, be encouraged.  This life is a spiritual battle and you have the greatest spiritual asset through Jesus Christ, prayer.
